Support for the National Immunisation Programme
HSCL provides immunization support at both national and sub-national levels. Ongoing and recently completed immunization targeted support include
Lead role in the development of Nigeria’s National Strategy for Immunization and Primary Health Care Systems Strengthening (NSIPSS)
HSCL led the provision of technical assistance for the development of Nigeria’s National Strategy for Immunisation and Primary Health Care Systems Strengthening (NSIPSS) and the over $3 billion, 10-year Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) Transition Plan.
State Immunisation Support:
Based on NICS/MICS 2016 Penta3 coverage data, number of un/under-immunized children, eight (8) low performing States were selected to benefit from additional support from Gavi for Routine Immunization (RI) and PHC strengthening upon meeting certain requirements. HSCL under contract to GAVI, provided support to 4 states (Katsina, Kebbi, Nigeria, and Zamfara) in the planning, development, and submission of proposals to GAVI. To ensure that the planning processes and requests for support were guided by evidence, HSCL conducted a situational analysis of the immunization programme and primary health care systems. A fiscal space analysis was also conducted with the development of an intervention theory of change. Technical assistance was provided to the states for the development of their programme support rationale and budgets.
Physical Stock Count of Vaccines and related commodities in North Central and North East Zones of Nigeria
HSCL under contract to UNICEF and GAVI, conducted the physical stock-count of vaccines and related commodities in 249 stores and 2,136 health facilities across the 13 states in the North Central and North East zones of the country in 2019. This included the security-challenged and hard-to-reach locations in both regions. The exercise provided part of the data that was used for Nigeria’s 2020 vaccine and related commodities forecast.
