Health Systems Consult Limited (HSCL) ACE 3 recently completed an Integrated Darunavir ART training for healthcare workers in Sokoto state. The 5-day training which took place at the Command Guest House Sokoto from 12 to 16 August, 2024, is to build the capacity of the healthcare workers who in the frontline of providing healthcare services to HIV patients in the state on the new guideline for providing services to HIV patients. The overall objective of this training is to help the healthcare workers improve their service delivery to clients in their facilities.
The training is to help physicians understand the use of Darunavir, and how to dispense the drug to the end users. It is also to help them learn how to monitor clients using the drug, as well as provided participants with and opportunity to take refreshers on all aspects of HIV programming in the state.
Discussion during the training also covers the best practices in the storage of drug commodities as well as the integration of Tuberculosis treatment in HIV programming. Participants were also trained on proper documentation of clients for monitoring purposes. 62 healthcare workers drawn from health facilities, state ministry of health, SACA and other health agencies in the state participated in the training.
Highlights of the training included facility visits, where participants went to 2 of the ACE 3 supported facilities, the Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), and Sokoto Specialist Hospital for practical sessions on the clinic flow.
